Cold Beam Games

I'm a bit late posting this, but Beat Hazard Ultra was featured on the official PlayStaion blog a few weeks ago. It's amazing to get something one there. The article is about how I've written a PSN game in my bedroom! Read it here.

A few weeks ago I heard the sad news that Juice Games had been closed down by THQ. I used to work there and many of my old colleagues are now looking for new positions.

However, there is a silver lining. Two new companies have formed from the ashes and I can highly recommend both.

The first is D3T who specialise in business and game software for PC, Mac, game consoles & smart phones. They also work with electronic hardware development and systems integration.

The D3T guys are also doing the port of Beat Hazard Ultra to the Mac, so I can vouch for them personally!

The second is Alien Apple Studios who are a cutting edge concept art team. These guys really know their stuff and specialise in the following: Conceptual design ( vehicle , environmental, character , creature),  'key moment' visualisation , product branding and Identity , graphic design, UI and in-game hud design, motion graphic visualisation, Storyboard and motion board animatics.

Check out some of their kick ass artwork below:

Here's an interview I've just done with Joel from Electron Dance about the good old days of Atari & 8-bit games. Here.

To make up for forcing you to listen to Miss Black, here's a gameplay video to a track with a bit more bite!
Insane level with 200% visual feedback, no deaths (just). Get in!
This is one of the music tracks built in the game. Enjoy!

...it's Friday, Friday, gotta shoot things on Friday.

Check it out! Here's the Beat Hazard Ultra trailer. It will be available at Steam on 27th June. Mac & PS3 will be later

A big shout out to Mike 'FadedReality' Patrick for putting together the video - excellent work!

And for those that are wondering, I'd love to do an Xbox version, but Ultra was rejected for release on XBLA by MS. I'll try looking for a publisher later in the year. (Fingers crossed) Show your XBLA support by clicking like below.

Micro Missile Power-up
Launch a swarm of fire and forget micro missiles. Like a pack of frenzied piranha, they seek out their prey and tear chunks off them until there's nothing left.

Oh did I tell you about the mini-serpent bad guy? No? ... well there's one! He'd like to get to know you better.
Picture
Auto Target Prioritization
Micro missile will target the highest threat on screen, so they're particularly useful if there's a swarm of ships between you and a dangerous enemy.

Oh yes, did I forget to mention that bosses can now carry turrets that launch smaller ships? mwhahaha!

I'll soon be releasing a teaser trailer of Ultra so you can see all the new content in full motion!

Reflect Shield power-up in action
Very very useful for getting out of sticky situations. It will protect you against anything the enemy can throw at you. It also has some cool offensive capabilities...
Picture
Turn the enemies weapons against them!
Any incoming missiles that hit the shield will change allegiance and go after the enemy. You can see the red missiles in the image have turned around and are zipping off to punish the enemy.
Picture
Batter 'em good!
The shield will also push back smaller ships, inflicting damage each time. Wade through a swarm of bad guys and watch the destruction ensue!

And that's the Reflect Shield. Not to shabby eh? Next time, the Micro Missile power-up.
